“Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will.”
This is a powerful adage/quote. But I starting to realise more than a simply “fear kills dreams”. Fear not just kills dreams, it causes ppl to make bad decisions, to actually fail. So fear not just kills dreams, its causes failure.
The funny thing is, children / kids, by default are fearless. Because simply doing something without fear, and learning from mistakes and trial & error is how people grow and develop. Like the habit with people of my generation and younger, we hate manuals. We prefer to figure out the computer, electronics and applications on our own – anyhow clicking, tampering or even breaking it – but we learn it good and learn it well. Like in playing games, we just keep repeating and reiterating until we gain mastery. There is never any fear when we do all these or when we play a new game. However this is not true for my parent’s generation. My mum just afraid that she might break the computer and delete some critical files…. The fears by the older generation might seemed laughable to us; but on the same scale, our fears as adults, in professional life or in our entrepreneurial life…
The very same fears my mother have is reflected in my inability to become more networked or resourceful. For most people, we have an acute lack of resourcefulness. One of the most important trait of an entrepreneur is resourcefulness. To be able to for the ways for various issues and obstacle, and resolve them – its invaluable. The fears, are usually the fear of the unknown and the fear of the paths that we had never taken. This is a very glaring weakness from my personal point of view of myself, and it had probably been too long I have left it as it is. And in my course of work recently, doing research and writing – resourcefulness and strong networks are extremely important transferable skills for anyone of any trade. And because how rare such traits are among the general population, having such strength sets you apart from the rest and make your work a lot more effective.
Fear is also the prime culprit for creation of doubts and suspicion of your lover/partner. The fear of the “possible shitty future” creates overthinking of any issues. Overthinking means you start to analyse (or rather overanalyse) the given issue, looking things in all the various perspective – its pros and cons. However, human beings innately have mental biasness towards negative issues – its a form of defense mechanism. But human being’s default and first solution to all problems tend to be avoidance. If we can avoid it, we no need to fight it. Thats also the same as diplomacy – why fight if we can talk it out. So why face the problem if we can avoid the problem. So we avoid. What we fear, we worry, we get anxious and then we try to run away. For some people, they dun just run away – they self destruct. I personally is guilty of this too. The more its closer to my heart, the more I will try to self sabotage. Its bad.
So remember peeps, FEAR do not just kills your dreams. It kills everything.
Its difficult to not fear, but we have to try.
Lets make a pact. LETS YOLO and not fear anymore.
