Indomitable conviction and courage . of Lee Kuan Yew

Coming to 24 hours since LKY’s passing, it was a difficult day, that was mostly spent talking, reading, discussing and remember him and his legacy.

He is a man of his times; one of the few that had the perfect combination of education, upbringing, wisdom, foresight and experience. His very experience through World War 2 have shaped his destiny – to be one that helps his fellow countrymen gain our own determination and to never fall back into the dark days under the Japanese Occupation.

He was never a person to be intimidated by reputation or because we are a small country. Right even in the early days as Prime Minister, he have no question about his presence and influence as one of the leaders of the world. Like the interview in 1967 in United States with Meet The Press, he have no qualms stamping his presence. It is that sort of conviction and courage in himself his belief in the ability to shape the future of himself, the country and even the world.

He was the reason China opened up. He was the reason United States is putting more effort into balancing of powers in South East Asia against China. Who would have thought a ethnic Chinese in the middle of a region of non-Chinese, in one of the smallest country in the world – that was also just newly independent – would shaped the world like he did.

And here, the smaller men of us worrying about relatively small minuscule problem like women, money and work…

Today (or rather “yesterday”, as it had past midnight), as the great man passes, its time to rethink of position in the world in life, our role & purpose we had seen for ourselves; its time to be very confident in ourselves and in what we can achieve as a Singaporean; its time to be better and gain the wisdom and knowledge to do what we can do better in life; its time to do more meaningful stuff, in things that we really interested and believe in, and leave a legacy like LKY did.

Its time.

Its time for that indomitable conviction and courage, that the Father of Singapore had shown.
